The Lowdown

A look at what's happening in the world of Randolph County sports.

    • Randolph Southern's Hagen Gambrel and Vance Taylor are still alive in the IHSAA tennis tournament and play a doubles team from Fort Wayne Dwenger on Saturday. Pretty impressive run here for these two Rebs. They have advanced further than any Rebels in school history! Kudos to Kyle Good, who has done an absolutely amazing job with the Southern tennis program.

    • Union City hosts Winchester Friday night for the annual Milk Can game. This game could go either way. The home team has won the past five seasons. Always a big game at lots at stake in this big annual rivalry game.

    • Monroe Central and Union have been eliminated in the volleyball sectional and we want to thank them for giving a great effort this season. But we still have three teams left. At Union, Randolph Southern faces Blue River tonight, followed by Union City vs. an excellent Cambridge City outfit. At Alexandria, Winchester goes up against a real good Frankton team. Should be some great action.

    • The Cross Country regional is Saturday, again held at the Muncie Sportsplex. Both the Monroe Central girls' and boys' teams have excellent shots at advancing to the semi-state. Another awesome year for the Bears under Ron Braun. Southern's Olivia Keesling (3rd in the sectional), Lilly Pierce of Union and Ava Jefferis of Union City, along with Aidan Moystner and Brock Hays of Winchester, compete as individuals. Isn't cross country a great sport?

    • The 50th annual Winchester 400 is this weekend and you can see by all the campers at the Speedway how popular this famed event is with racing fans. If you are a fan of auto racing, this is the place to be. Lots of action leading up to the big race on Sunday at 2:45.
