Monroe Central eighth grade girls nip Driver
The Lady Bears clawed their way to a 41-39 victory in an exciting eighth grade battle against Driver on Monday.
The Bears were led by Brynlee Patterson with 16 points.
Olivia Conklin was also in double figures scoring 14 points.
Aberee Ervin had seven points, and Haidyn Dumpert and Oaklei Davis added two points each.
The seventh graders played one quarter. Monroe Central defeated Driver 4-2. The Lady Bears were led by Abby Thomas and Charlee Morris.
Lady Rebels win season opener against Cowan
The Lady Rebels opened their season with a 34-23 win over Cowan Wednesday.
Southern got off to a slow start facing a 15-10 deficit at halftime.
The Rebels came out stronger offensively and played great second half defense to claim the 34-23 win.
Joselyn Smith led the way with 22 points, nine rebounds, three steals, and one assist.
Abbi White contributed six points, five rebounds, and three steals.
Abbey Ludwig had four points and two rebounds, Bayleigh Phelps finished with two points and three rebounds, and Gracie Minnis added nine rebounds and six steals.
Cowan only had one team, but they were able to play an additional quarter. Southern won that period 4-0.
The Rebels were led by Darci Cox and Isabell Murray with two points each.
RS moves to 2-0 with win over Daleville
The eighth grade Lady Rebels defeated Daleville Monday 32-11 moving their record to 2-0.
Southern raced to a 13-2 first quarter lead and took a 17-6 advantage at halftime.
The Rebels continued to extend their lead through good defense and offensive contributions from several players.
Bayleigh Phelps scored a career-high 15 points and also grabbed three rebounds and two steals.
Joselyn Smith added six points, seven rebounds, five steals, and seven assists.
Abbi White had five points, three rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Memphis Miller finished with four points and four rebounds, Abbey Ludwig had two points, four rebounds, and two steals, and Gracie Minnis had four rebounds, six steals, and one assist.

Lady Rockets open season with win over Blue River
Union’s junior high girls’ basketball team opened its season Monday night with a 20-14 win over Blue River.
The Rockets got off to a great start climbing to a double digit lead in the first half.
Union was able to hang on to the lead and claimed the final six point victory.
The Rockets were led by Kenzy Ogden with 13 points and Melissa Schmucker with seven points.
Union’s next game is at Driver on Wednesday at 6:00.

Monroe Central’s seventh grade boys’ basketball team defeated Driver Monday 47-34.
The Bears, now 2-1, relied on a strong second half and solid team work to earn the victory.
Luke Morgan led MC with 25 points. Peyton Chamness had eight points, Weston Grove had five points, and Miles Oliphant finished with three points.
Driver defeated Monroe Central’s eighth grade 50-34.
Although the Bears were able to cut a 14 point half time deficit to just seven at the end of the third, the Hawks would not let them get any closer.
MC was led by Pierceton Erwin with 17 points.
The Bears play at Daleville on Monday at 6:00.
Seventh grade Bears defeat Cowan; eighth grade falls
Monroe Central’s seventh grade boys’ basketball team defeated Cowan 43-25 last Monday.
The Bears played a solid second half to earn their first victory of the season.
Luke Morgan led Monroe Central with 21 points.
Miles Oliphant added seven points, Peyton Chamness had six points, and Jed Ferguson finished with five points.
The eighth grade Bears were defeated by Cowan 41-31. After being outscored by the Blackhawks by nine points in the first quarter, MC played Cowan even for the rest of the game.
Maddox Taylor led the Bears offensively with eight points.
Conner Baker and Pierceton Erwin added six points each.
Bears fall to a talented
Monroe Central’s seventh grade boys’ team suffered its first loss of the season to Yorktown Thursday 43-34.
Plagued by a slow start, the Bears got behind early, but a strong second half kept them in striking distance.
Yorktown held on to the 43-34 win.
The Bears were led by Luke Morgan who finished with 29 points.
The eighth grade team lost to Yorktown 61-21.
The Bears were led by Maddox Taylor with 10 points. Caden Dance contributed four points.
Rebels make it to
title game of Wes-Del invite
Randolph Southern’s seventh grade boys’ basketball team defeated Wes-Del but lost to Cowan in the championship game of the Wes-Del Invitational Saturday.
In the first game, the Rebels appeared to have the game wrapped up as they cruised to a 26-16 lead after three quarters of play.
Cowan refused to give up though and put up a great battle in the fourth period, but the Rebels held on to claim the 30-29 victory.
The Rebels were led by Maddox Adams with 24 points, eight rebounds, and six steals.
Kaden Stewart had four points and four steals, Cameron Shumaker added two points and three rebounds, and Duncan Chamberlain had three rebounds and three steals.
In the championship game, the Rebels lost a hard fought battle against Cowan 25-18.
The teams played even in the first quarter with six points apiece. The Blackhawks took a two point advantage at halftime and increased their lead to five at the end of the third.
Outscoring Southern 6-4 in the last six minutes of play, Cowan claimed the championship victory.
Adams led the Rebels with nine points and five rebounds. Stewart added four points and four rebounds.
Eli Patterson had three points, Shumaker had two points and five rebounds, Drevian Lloyd added four rebounds, and Chamberlain had three rebounds.
Rebels run to 42-17 victory over Union County
With only five active players, Randolph Southern’s seventh grade basketball team defeated Union County last Monday 42-17.
The Rebels played without subs gaining an early first quarter 9-2 lead. RS was up 20-6 at the end of the first half.
Southern did not let up in the second half extending its lead in both quarters.
The Rebels were led by Kaden Stewart with 16 points, four rebounds, and five steals.
Maddox Adams added 15 points, five rebounds, and six steals.
Cameron Shumaker had seven points and four rebounds, Duncan Chamberlain finished with four points and six rebounds, and Drevian Lloyd had six rebounds.

Randolph Southern lost a 34-26 battle against Selma last Tuesday.
With only five players dressed to play, the Rebels fell behind 13-6 at the end of the first quarter. But the gritty seventh graders dug in and tied the game at 15 at the end of the first half.
The Rebels ran out of gas in the second half, and Selma was able to claim the eight point victory.
Maddox Adams led the way with 19 points, four rebounds, and four steals. Eli Patterson had five points, and Kaden Stewart had two points.
Indians lose season opener against Centerville
Union City’s seventh and eighth grade boys’ basketball teams lost their season opener against Centerville last Monday.
The seventh grade team came up short after a strong battle. They were led in scoring by Keegan Cooper with seven points.
Tayson Barbour and Cael Holt added four points each.
The eighth grade team had a good start but were unable to pull off the win.
The Indians were led by Trace Green who had 15 points.
Asa Vaughn was also in double figures with 10 points. Luis Neite and Logan Besser added two points each.
Union falls short
to Liberty Christian
Union’s seventh and eighth grade boys’ basketball teams hosted Liberty Christian last Monday.
Both teams showed improvement but fell short.
The eighth grade put together a good fourth quarter run by implementing a press that caused turnovers for Liberty Christian and quick points for the Rockets.
Union ran out of time and lost by five points.
Union opened its middle school basketball season with a loss to Blue River on Wednesday, November 9.
The seventh grade Rockets lost 25-4, and the eighth grade team lost 36-33.
