As a prelude to this year’s Randolph County Cross Country Meet, all five county schools competed in the Randolph Southern Invitational on Saturday.

Monroe Central’s Tucker Burris won the boys’ race, and the Bears ran away with the team event defeating second place Richmond by 52 points.

Burris’s time of 16:57 earned him the blue ribbon and was a season best performance for the senior.

Carter Miller finished second for the Bears and third overall in a time of 17:19. Miller has had a spectacular running career and has been an integral part of Monroe Central’s elite cross country program.

Kyler Shumaker (17:46) finished seventh, Eli Chamberlain (18:23) was 12th, and Caden Landis (18:38) finished 16th.

The Falcons, led by Aidan Moystner, finished in seventh place. Moystner’s time of 18:17 put him in 11th place overall, fifth among Randolph County runners.

Winchester’s Brock Hays earned 24th place. His time of 18:58 was a PR for the WC junior.

Union City’s Conner Walser led the Indians to a 10th place finish. Walser finished in sixth place with a PR time of 17:35. He ran the RS course almost a minute faster than he did at this time last year.

Walser’s teammate Donavan Shinaver continues to get better each race. He ran a PR time of 19:45 to earn 42nd place (and 10th among Randolph County runners) in Saturday’s invitational.

Freshman Jamie Pegg from Randolph Southern ran a PR time of 19:28 which put him in 32nd place.

Monroe Central was second in the team event, only eight points shy of first place Richmond. The Lady Bears were led by sophomore Addison Coe who finished fifth in a time of 21:15.

Coe has been leading this accomplished group of runners all season. Katie Osborne, another talented MC sophomore, finished second for the Bears and 15th overall in a time of 22:31.
