The Skate Park at Goodrich Park located at the site of the former Morton Elementary School, on the South end of the park, will host the first “Battle of the Boards” on Saturday, October 16. The event is free to the public, and registration will begin at Noon.
The competition will begin at 1:00 PM. Each entrant will have two two-minute runs. They will also be given three attempts at their best trick. Prizes will be awarded to the winners. There will also be music. Park Superintendent Shean Bosworth and his crew were busy prepping the Skate Park for the first time event on Tuesday afternoon.
“The Skate Park gives local skateboarders a place to safely enjoy the activity where they won’t get into trouble with property owners,” said Bosworth. “We hope that this event will take off and become a regular thing,” he continued. “We are trying to make better use of everything that Goodrich Park has to offer,” he added. “We are doing what we can to let people know about all that Goodrich Park has to offer. If this event takes off, it could even draw in visitors to the park from other nearby communities who will discover what Winchester and Goodrich Park has to offer,” he explained.
