The Randolph County Retired Teachers Association has partnered with Baker Elementary School teachers in an effort to put books into the hands and homes of students at the school. Baker subscribes to Scholastic Books. Scholastic offers books to students each month for a very low cost.
With the help of a donation from the Randolph County Retired Teachers Association, and a contribution from The News-Gazette, all of the First Grade students at the school will be taking home a book every month of this school year.
“We hope to eventually expand this program to all of the other elementary schools in Randolph County,” said Deb Swift, President of the Randolph County Retired Teachers Association. On Tuesday afternoon, Swift paid a visit to Baker to present teacher Wendy Scott with a check for over $400.00 to buy books for her students.
