INDIANAPOLIS – The Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) has awarded Randolph County the 2022 County Achievement Award for their innovative solution to resolving their problems with Randolph Bridge #85. This bridge has the highest traffic count of any bridge in Randolph Conty. In April of 2018, the county was awarded funding by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) for a new fire station located at the northeast quadrant of the bridge. However, the restricted load posting of 16 tons combined with the construction completion date of October 2019 would prevent emergency responders from crossing the bridge. Randolph county was determined to find a solution. SJCA, Inc. assessed and lifted the load posting to allow emergency vehicles to utilize the structure. Randolph County then received federal funding to help replace the bridge, granted in 2022. Substantial leadership was displayed through the Randolph County Government, along with Local and State Government to resolve the issue and protect their citizens.
