The Holidays will soon be here. Last Friday, the Lighted Christmas Parade returned to Union City! The Parade led Santa Claus to Harter Park where this year’s spectacular light display made its debut.

Mr. and Mrs. Claus along with many unique vendors will be in the Gift Shop every Friday and Saturday through December 18 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The light display will be open Sundays through Thursdays from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Fridays and Saturdays from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM beginning November 26 until December 6, and running through December 31. The laser light show will be open from 6:30 PM until 9:00 PM Sundays through Thursdays, and from 6:30 PM until 10:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, weather permitting. This Laser Light Show presented by Darrin Smith will be synchronized to music broadcast on 89.7 FM. There is no fee to view this spectacular display, however donations are always welcome. Mayor Chad Spence, City officials, and many others have worked countless hours preparing this display.

One night only on December 11, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM will be the Idle Hour Ranch. Live animals including a llama, goats, camels, and a cow will be present next to the gift shop to enjoy. The Idle Hour Ranch is sponsored by RJ Painting and Sonny and Darlene Hunt.

For the eighth year, the Randolph County Airport will be having its “Lights and Flights” event. On December 10 and 11 from 6:00 PM until 11:00 PM, with a weather date of December 12, one can take a flight over the Harter Park light display. The fee for this experience is only $25.00 per person, a portion of which goes to PAWS (Pets are Worth Saving) of Union City. Soup and sandwiches will be served and fun activities will be available while you wait for your flight.

Also on December 10, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, State Line Heritage will present “Christmas in the City” at the Elks Club at 318 North Columbia Street. There will be craft vendors, carriage rides, pictures with Santa, window and home decorating contests, a cookie walk, Christmas carolers, later shopping hours in the downtown stores, and free shuttle rides through Harter Park to view the spectacular display of lights that has transformed the park into a virtual “Winter Wonderland.”

So if you’re in the mood for a good old fashioned Christmas in the City, with all sorts of fun activities to experience, make a stop in Union City on December 10.
