Boy Scouts of Troop 17 camped this past beautiful weekend at Summit Lake State Park where they participated in the international Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) and Jamboree On The Internet (JOTI) event. Saturday, the Scouts made several contacts using the HAM (amateur) radio stations belonging to Scoutmaster Jason Knasinski (KD9BGS) and Troop Treasurer Josh White (KD9LVX).
In addition to the live communications, each Scout worked on and earned the Boy Scouts of America Radio Merit Badge which will be presented at the next Court of Honor at 6:30 in the evening on December sixteenth at the Harrisville Christian Church Shelter House. The church is located just west of the ethanol plant.
Boys aged 11 to 17 are welcome to attend and consider joining Troop 17. No prior scouting experience is required; just a desire to have fun camping, hiking, kayaking, and learning new skills such as earning a HAM license, or getting SCUBA certified. Troop 17 will be heading to Florida next summer to spend a week SCUBA diving.
Adults at camp were Scoutmaster Jason, Assistant Scoutmasters Bill Hardwich and Frank Knasinski, Troop Treasurer Josh, and Troop Committee member Jerry Driskill. Scouts attending were Lucas Driskill, Chad White, Isaiah White, and Eli Knasinski.
