Falcons sweep the titles, but few fans due to the pandemic

The 2021 All-Randolph County Tournament team was announced Tuesday by the Randolph County Athletic Association. 

Winchester’s boys’ team and girls’ team won both championships, taking different paths to the title. 

The Falcon boys extended their win streak to eight straight games by defeating Monroe Central (56-49) in the first round, Randolph Southern (69-46) in the semifinals and Union City (85-55) in the championship. 

The Lady Falcons won for the seventh time in eight games and defeated Union City (88-56) over Union City in the semifinals and defeated Monroe Central (67-29) in the championship game. 

The all-tournament selections on the boys’ side were Payton Sparks, Wayde Sickels and Brooks Burelison of Winchester; Elijah Cowper and Antoni Velasquez of Union City; Jackson Ullom and Joey Ullom of Monroe Central; Quentin McDavid and Carter Abshear of Randolph Southern; and Champ Ellis of Union. 

Honorable mention for the boys were Dane Sickels of Winchester, Zerrin Cantu of Union City and Braydon Adams of Union. 

The all-tournament selections on the girls’ side were Caitlyn Campbell, Navaeah Later and Morgan Lawrence of Winchester; Macy Shinn and Sami Farmer of Monroe Central; Mariah Claywell and Emily Livingston of Union City; Jewelia Austin and Kaibre Stephan of Randolph Southern and Honour Ellis of Union. 

Honorable mention for the girls were Gena Moore of Winchester, Alex McGrath of Monroe Central, Skylie Lutz of Union City, Brianna Smith of Randolph Southern and Zoe Ogden of Union.
