Union City’s baseball team beat Southern Wells on Saturday in the opening game of the Dylan Williams Memorial Wood Bat Tournament, 9-2.
The Indians were lead at the plate by Hunter Reagans with a double, a single, and 1 RBI. Seven other Indians had one hit each.
Corbin Richards started on the mound and after pitching two innings, he was relieved by Zach Fulk. Fulk got the win pitching 5 innings and giving up no runs.
The Indians (5-6) advance to the finals on Saturday afternoon.
In the second opening-round game Ansonia beat Tri-Village by a score of 1-0.
In the consolation game, Tri-Village was able to outscore Southern Wells 9-0.
The finals came down to the last out before it was decided by an Ansonia single to left field to drive in the winning run.
Zach Fulk started on the mound and was relieved in the thirdinning by Cam LaFuze.
LaFuze proceeded to strike out 11 of the 16 batters he faced and keep Ansonia scoreless until there were two outs in the bottom of the 7th.
Union City drops to 5-7 on the season and will play a Tri Eastern Conference game on Tuesday, May 4th at Centerville.
