EDP Renewables North America (EDPR), a leading renewable energy company headquartered in Houston, Texas, and the Headwaters Wind Farm celebrated their technicians with a Wind Tech Appreciation Day on-site on Sunday, August 11.
The event was intended to commemorate American Wind Week, an annual celebration of American wind power and the opportunities it creates. This year’s events run from August 11-17.
During the event, wind technicians enjoyed a catered lunch and received EDPR sweatshirts and coolers to express EDPR’s gratitude for their contributions to the American wind industry. American Wind Week presented the perfect opportunity to celebrate the wind industry, but EDPR recognizes the importance of those who keep it going and all that they do.
“The American wind industry is experiencing rapid growth, and we’re proud to be a part of it,” said Russell Cooke, Headwaters Wind Farm Operations Manager.
Marie Nunley, Headwaters Wind Farm Operations Administrator, continued, “Celebrating our wind technicians during American Wind Week shows our appreciation for what they do every day in addition to how we’re a part of something bigger. The clean energy community looks forward to where wind energy is headed next in Indiana and across the nation.”
Headwaters Wind Farm, located 70 miles east of Indianapolis along the Ohio border, has an installed capacity of 200 megawatts and can power approximately 55,000 average Indiana homes annually. The wind farm conserves more than 355 million gallons of water annually while also improving air quality to mitigate the detrimental effects of air pollution.
Beyond its environmental benefits, Headwaters Wind Farm yields substantial economic support for Randolph County. Through 2018, EDPR has distributed $3.1 million to local landowners and has contributed to approximately $35.8 million in cumulative local spending. The next phase of the wind farm, Headwaters II, is expected to be operational in 2020.
