Monroe Central hosted a four-way cross country meet Saturday with Yorktown, Jay County, and Cowan. The boys won the race edging out a very talented Yorktown team, and the girls came in second behind Yorktown by only six places.
Tucker Burris won the individual contest (16:53) making that six individual wins in six meets. After breaking Coach Ron Braun’s long-standing record on Sept. 5, Burris continues to lead a very talented Monroe Central team.
Carter Miller finished second in 17:39, not a PR but his best official time on his home course.
The Bears had six runners in the top 10: Burris, Miller, Eli Chamberlain, Caden Shumaker, Caden Landis, and Kyler Shumaker.
Caden Shumaker is the lone senior on the team making the Bears not only a current powerhouse but a great future team of runners as well.
The Lady Bears have had their share of success as well this season. In six events they have been third once (Marion Invitational), second twice, and first three times.
On Saturday, Monroe Central was led by freshman Addison Coe with a PR of 21:45. Freshman Katie Osborne was right behind her with a PR of 21:47.
Sophomore Karly Puckett was also in the top 10 with a time of 22:13.
