Monroe Central surrendered the most points since a 52-7 loss to Union City in the 2012 sectional Friday night as the Golden Bears suffered a 48-9 Mid-Eastern Conference setback at Eastern Hancock.
The ninth-ranked Bears fell to 4-3 on th season and 1-1 in Mid-Eastern Conference play.
Trailing 26-14 at halftime, Monroe Central’s defense could not stop the Royals in the third quarter when they scored three touchdowns and pulled away to a 48-14 lead entering the final quarter.
The Royals amassed 375 yards of total offense, and while the Bears had 295 of their own they could not score in key situations.
Sophomore quarterback Jackson Ullom finished by completing 21 of 33 passes for 174 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Joel Kennedy and Sam Feola combined to rush for 85 yards, Luke Jones caught seven passes for 51 yards and Feola caught a touchdown pass.
The Bears try to get back on track Friday when they host Union County.
