MONROE – Fifth-ranked Monroe Central played well enough to win Friday’s Class A clash with No. 3 Adams Central.

They just didn’t.

The Golden Bears lost for the first time this season, 21-13, to the highly- regarded Jets and slipped to 2-1 on the season entering Friday’s game at Southern Wells.

The Bears cut the lead to 14-13 in the third quarter but the Jets tacked on a touchdown and the Bears were unable to dent the scoreboard after that.

Sophomore quarterback Justin Ullom scored a touchdown and connected with freshman Luke Jones on another score. Ullom finished with another good performance behind center, completing 16 of 24 passes for 174 yards, but had two passes intercepted.

Monroe Central’s ground game totaled just 116 yards, mainly on the work of Sam Feola and Joel Kennedy. Jones finished with 89 receiving yards and Logan Patterson had four catches for 24 yards. The defense was led by Isaac Moles with 14 total tackles, Logan Swallow with 13 tackles and Caleb Snyder with 11 tackles. Patterson also had an interception
