Current principal and Union City Community High School graduate Aaron Black will be named the new Superintendent of the Randolph Eastern School Corporation at the regular trustee meeting on Thursday, Dec. 20.
The expected hiring of Black follows a search by the district that included the Board identifying focus and strength areas of the school corporation, partnering with the University Superintendent Search Team, matching candidate strengths to the identified needs of the corporation, reviewing applications and supporting documentation, conducting extensive interviews, and conducting background and reference checks.
The interviewing and selection team consisted of the current school board members, Greg Whitesel, Wendy Smith, Linda Puccini, Jamie Kerns, and Kim Davison, as well as newly elected board members, Tim Puccini, Rhonda Reagan, and Beverly Osborne who will be sworn in as Board members in January, 2019.
Black is expected to assume duties as Superintendent on Feb. 1, 2019.
“I am extremely blessed to have the opportunity to lead a school corporation that is responsible for setting the foundation for me,” Black said of his anticipated hiring. “Moving into this position is a dream for me and I look forward to building and adding to the capacity of the Randolph Eastern family.
“My leadership at Randolph Eastern is and always will be grounded in giving back to the community that has given so much to me.”
The vacancy was created in July, 2018 when Lisa Smith resigned to accept a position with New Castle Community Schools. Since then, Dr. Alice Johnson has been serving as Interim Superintendent.
Black earned his Master’s degree as well as his Ed. Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He has been the principal at Union City Jr-Sr. High School since 2014.
Previous experience includes assistant principal/AD at Union City Jr-Sr. High School, Elementary Principal at Anderson Prep and Athletic Director at Monroe Central.
Black is a graduate of Union City High School.
Initial contract for Black is set to begin Feb. 1, 2019, through June 30, 2022, with a base salary of $97,000. This is a contract commensurate with the duties and responsibilities as well as the expectations of this Board and community.
The University Search Team included Dr. John Hill, Purdue University; Dr. Jim Freeland, Purdue University; Dr. Terry McDaniel, Indiana State University; Dr. Lynn Lehman, Ball State University; and Dr. Walter Bourke, Indiana University.
