A top prize of $1,000 is up for grab on Sunday, May 24 for the first Prescott Memorial at Circle X Ranch.

Looking for some fun and excitement this Memorial Day? The First Annual Prescott Memorial takes place at the Circle X Ranch from May 23-25 and promises entertainment for all ages.

Competitors from across the state will compete for a $1,000 top prize in Sunday’s main event. There is a full schedule of barrel racing contests and some flag contests on tap all three days with cash prizes up for grabs. The Prescott Memorial Indiana Barrel Racing Association (IBRA) Open on Sunday, named in honor of long-time Circle X members Calvin and Ruth Prescott, is expected to attract some of the top IBRA competitors across the state. The ultimate winner will not only earn the $1,000 top prize, but will be presented a belt buckle.

Many vendors will be on hand for the special weekend, including Hoosier Que Daddy with his famous barbecue sandwiches.

Barrel racing is a rodeo event in which a horse and rider attempt to complete a cloverleaf pattern around preset barrels in the fastest time.

The Prescott Memorial may become a signature event at the not-for-profit Circle X, but there are many plans underway to add community events such as dinners and dances. There is a Fun horse show the first Saturday of the month that allows anyone to compete in classes such as Pleasure, Halter, Barrels, Poles and many others.

There will be another IBRA event in September, along with a new Fall Fever Horse show.

A Community Fun Day is also being planned for this summer. The Fun Day will feature bounce houses, cotton candy, snow cones and lots of great food. There will also be dog races featuring greyhounds.

Sheri Allen, Marketing Liaison for the Circle X, said the goal is to bring back community fun to the local venue by planning more family-oriented events. She invites anyone to become a member or just come and hang out.

Anyone interested in becoming a member can contact any officer or board member for details.
