Ambassadors to present Christmas musical

The North Side Ambassasdors, a mini-show choir made of of third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students, will present "Celebrate Christmas! Celebrate Family!" on Saturday and Sunday, December 6-7 at the West Side cafetorium.

Saturday's performance is a dinner theater at 6:30 p.m. with very limited seating. The meal will be catered by Sidetracks Restaurant. The cost of the dinner show is $7.

Brad Hoggatt, director for the Ambassadors, has added a second performance for 2 p.m., Sunday for a freewill donation.

Each show will feature 11 holiday songs, from the familiar Christmas favorites to songs featured in various films. Certain songs will feature soloists. Titles include "As Long As There's Christmas," "Somewhere in My Memory" from the film "Home Alone," "God Bless My Family" and "Grown Up Christmas List." Both performances will include a slide show.

The Ambassadors started last year, with students required to audition. Each child selected as an Ambassador signs a contract agreeing to various stipulations. Those requirements include: maintaining an 80% average on each grade card and a 95% attendance record with no discipline referrals.

The Ambassadors have a busy holiday schedule this season. The group has been invited to perform at seven different holiday venues, including various social and service clubs' Christmas parties. The group will also perform for their fellow students at North Side on December 19.

The Ambassadors have already performed at "Time For Trees" on Thursday, November 20 a the Randolph County Fairgrounds.

This special group is self-sufficient. All monies collected through donations goes into buying music and meeting minimal uniform needs for the following year.

Hoggatt says, "Our parents are to be commended. They have willingly purchased uniform needs, donated snacks for pracitces, provided materials for dinner theater and property production. Special thanks go to Lori Lynch of Lynch Photography, for donating her time and energy to take pictures of each Ambassador to be used in promotions and publicity at each show. "
