Winchester man and wife

arrested for growing pot

Officers from the Indiana State Police and Randolph County Sheriff's Department Wednesday arrested a Winchester man and his wife for allegedly growing marijuana at their home.

Chad W. Daggett, 36, and Stella A. Daggett, 35, of 2342 N. County Road 300 East, Winchester, were preliminarily charged with cultivating marijuana over 30 grams, and maintaining a common nuisance, both Class D felonies.

They were arrested a 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at their residence.

State Police Redkey District marijuana eradication coordinator Ron Halbert, Jr., obtained a search warrant from Randolph Circuit Court after spotting marijuana plants growing outside the Daggett's rural Randolph County residence from a police helicopter.

In serving the warrant authorities said they found 30 healthy marijuana plants growing outside and processed marijuana, and seeds inside the house. Stella Daggett was arrested at the residence and Chad Daggett was apprehended when he arrived home shortly thereafter.

When troopers witnessed Chad Daggett drive to the residence he was charged with being a habitual traffic violator, a Class D felony.

As of noon Thursday, they were incarcerated at Randolph County Jail - Chad Daggett on $10,000 bond and Stella Daggett on a $5,000 bond.
