RS board honors teacher's memory

At their June 17 meeting, Randolph Southern School Board members honored the memory of business teacher Sandra Moore, who died unexpectedly recently. They presented a memorial certificate to Moore's family citing her many contributions to students, faculty and staff.

Moore taught business and accounting for 31 years at Randolph Southern, and she also served as a class sponsor and as a homebound instructor through the years.

In other business, board members recognized the following students for their accomplishments:

€Tristan Erwin and Dalton Spencer, Ball State University Reading Achievement Program;

€ Chase McKinney for winning the Indiana Council for Economic Education poster contest;

€ 2008 Girls Jr. High Track Team: Hannah Franklin, county long jump champion; Shelbie Hathaway, county 1600 meter run champion; Cally Arnett, Franklin, Maddi Kramer and Tess Wise, 400 meter relay team champions; Matt Warren, all-county team and Mid-Eastern Conference All-Conference Team for Golf;

€ 2008 Girls Softball Team: Brianna Legg, Emily Wissel and Maggie Wissel, Mid_Eastern Conference All-Conference Team;

€ 2008 Boys Baseball Team: Sean Arnold, George Myers and Zach Lee, county all-county team; Arnold and Myers, all-conference team; Brian Frantz, exemplary sportsmanship from the Indiana High School Athletic Association;

€ 2008 Girls Varsity Track Team: Rebekah Allen, Courtney Clevenger, Katie Miller and Lydia Morrow, county champions, conference champions, sectional champions, qualifers for the Ben Davis regional; Victoria Hicks, county champion for discuss, qualified for region in both discus and shotput; Miller, 400 meter run, conference champion, qualifer for regional.

The board approved the following employments for the 1008-2009 school year:

* Michael Linville, summer band;

€ Cristin Vetor, PE and health teacher, 7th grade girls basketball coach, seventh and eighth grade girls volleyball coach;

€ Gary L. Girton, full-time bus driver, replacing Candee Hartman, who resigned May 19, 2008;

€Jennifer Engle, cafeteria cook, who replaces Judy Collins, who resigned June 17;

€Linda Perry and Rebecca Grimes, instruction assistants in the junior/senior high school, dependent upon special needs student enrollment;

€Cindee Cowen, guidance secretary, ELC coordinator;

€ Nathan Sefton, business teacher, junior high wrestling coach and track coach.

In other Randolph Southern news, board members, after inspection by their maintenance supervisor, declined the offer to accept from St. Vincent Randolph the trailor that formerly housed a doctor's office. The trailer is on school property.

The next Randolph Southern School Board meeting will be at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 8 at the elementary school.
