The Losantville festival committee's work - those chicken and noodle dinner fundraisers held throughout the year - will pay off the weekend of June 13-14 when the town holds its "All American Town" Summer Festival. There will be a community-wide yard sale, an antique tractor show, a flea market, and food booths, as well as musical entertainment and a rock wall for daring climbers.
Janice Metsker said the Losantville gets "pretty good crowds" and the committee is trying to "build it up." She also said it's a lot of hard work for such a small community to take on such a large project.
In the past, the Lions Club put on the Losantville festival. In 2001 a group of citizens decided to revitalize the event, and the name for the festival, "All American Town," just "popped up."
Losantville's festival includes most of what small town gatherings are about: entertainment, good food, and traditions.
Friday's events begin at 4:30 p.m. with a horse pull, followed at 7 p.m. with a big "kids" pedal pull. The fire department will have its fish fry from 5 p.m. until food runs out. The band Southern Edge will provide the musical entertainment from 8:30 to 10 p.m.
Saturday morning begins with the festival committee's big country breakfast from 7 to 10 o'clock. Registration for the 5K/run and walk begins at 7 a.m. Registration for the car show at 8:30 a.m., with the car show lasting until 3 p.m. with DJ CWB.
The parade line up begins at 11 a.m., but the parade itself marches at 1 p.m.., so drivers will have plenty of time to enter the tractor pull sponsored by the fire department at 11 a.m.
After the parade, there will be a kids pedal pull at 2:30 p.m. and a cake walk at 3:30. The Union Lions Club will hove a pork chop dinner from 4 to 7 p.m.
Other events on Saturday include: 4:30 p.m., minirod tractor pull; 5 p.m., Cornfield Cloggers (also 6 p.m., Friday); and at 7 p.m., the crowning of the 2008 Losantville royalty. Shortly after the crowning, prize winners will be announced.
The festival will conclude with entertainment by the ETC band from 8 to 10 p.m.
Other committee members include: Carla Moore, Margaret Fisher, Larry Metsker, Pat and Lynette Mosier, David Fisher, Billy Ridge, Shirley Newton and Mary Newton.
Metsker says there's still room at the festival for more vendors. For more information, call her at 765-853-5273.
