Union City pool to
open next Saturday
The Union City Municipal Swimming Pool will open for the season Saturday, May 24. The pool will open at noon and close at 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sunday operating hours are 1 to 6 p.m.
Lifeguards will teach swimming lessons at arranged times Monday through Friday. Pool parties have already been scheduled for some dates in July and August. There are still several openings for the month of June. The pool party price schedule is $35 an hour for up to 40 swimmers and $45 an hour for more than 40 swimmers.
The rates for admission remain $1.50 for students and $2 for adults. For residents of surrounding cities, such as Ansonia, Palestine, and Hollansburg in Ohio and Ridgeville, Lynn and Modoc in Indiana, the UC pool provides the opportunity to travel a short distance and enjoy family fun at an affordable cost.
A single season pass is $40. A family pass for 2-5 members is $60 and goes up in increments of $10 for each person over five members.
Besides the Mondays of June 23 and July 7, family night will be each Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Family Night is an opportunity for family members and various groups to enjoy Union City's outdoor recreation. Family Night will be general admission only this year and costs 75 cents each. It will take 40 admissions each Family Night to pay for the staff and continue the pleasure. Adults may bring a raft on Monday nights which will be a great night to cool off and relax.
The front desk staff will rent baskets. Summer rental is $12.50 for the season. A basket is a smart way to keep cell phones, I-pods, jewelry and money. The daily rate for baskets is 50 cents each. There are 25 baskets available, to be rented on a first come, first served basis.
The 2008 Union City Tiger Sharks swim team's first home meet is Thursday, June 19, against Arcanum, Ohio, at 6:30 p.m. Other home dates include June 23 against St. Henry, Ohio, at 6 p.m. and Wednesday June 25 against Greenville, Ohio, at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 28, the team will host its conference swim meet at the Union City Municipal Swimming Pool. The pool will not be open to the general public on this day and the starting time will be announced at a later date. Monday, July 7, the team will race Jay County and finish Thursday July 10, against Winchester. Both events start at 6 p.m. The end of the season banquet is Friday July 18 and is a chance for the public to congratulate the athletes who complete at the Union City Municipal Swimming Pool.
