Falcons take two from Owls

MUNCIE - Winchester's varsity track teams came away with a pair of dual meet victories Tuesday at Ball State University where the Falcons defeated the Owls of Muncie Burris.

The Falcon boys escaped with a close 59-57 victory with Shane Peacock claiming two individual sprint victories and Lucas Wickersham returning to the oval to post a pair of middle distance wins.

Peacock won the 100-meter dash in :11.4 and the 200-meter dash in :23.7. Wickersham sprinted to the 400 win in :55.4 and won the 800-meter run in 2:15.5.

Both Peacock and Wickersham were also on the winning 1600-meter relay team, and Wickersham was also on the winning 3200-meter relay team.

Billy Rosson was winner for the Falcons, taking the blue in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of :16.07. Cody Dull soared to the win in the long jump at 17 feet, 3 inches.

The Falcons survived despite having disqualifications in both the 300-meter hurdles and 400-meter relay. Burris, though, was also disqualified in the 400-meter relay.

The Falcons travel to Hagerstown on Wednesday.

Winchester's Lady Falcons took the closing 1600-meter relay by nine seconds to secure a 65-58 victory over Muncie Burris Monday.

The quartet of Brittany Shepherd, Ciera Ogle, M. Densmore and Natasha Pelser crossed the finish line in 4:39.1 in the 4x400m event.

The Lady Falcons had several top efforts with Danielle Greene winning the 100-meter hurdles (18.1), Janelle Hinty winning the 100-meter dash (:13.8), Natasha Pelser claiming the 400-meter dash (1:06.2), Brittany Shepherd winning the 300-meter hurdles (:58.0) and Olivia Wickersham winning the 3200-meter run (14:05). The Falcons also won the 400-meter relay (:57.4) behind a team of Stohler, Hinty, Shepherd and Emily Sells).

The Falcons (1-1) take on Hagerstown Wednesday.
