Falcons rally, but
lose to South Adams
By RICK REED

Winchester coach Julie Smiley liked what she witnessed this week in the Falcons loss to visiting South Adams.
"We came out with much better attitudes tonight and we were able to make a strong comeback in game four for the first time all season," the first-year coach said.
South Adams led the match two games to one and appeared to be on the verge of taking game four convincingly when the Falcons showed they had some fight left. The Starfires led 22-13 before Kelsey Tarter's hot serving helped Winchester's girls rally to rattle off nine straight points and tie the game at 22-22. The Starfires, though, scored three of the next four rally points and escaped the upset.
"I was very proud of their improved mental toughness, but we are still lacking the consistency in skills to put the match away," Smiley said. "More experience and getting the girls to play more in the offseason should help us next year."
Smiley said she was especially pleased with Brittany Shepherd's ball striking. Shepherd went 18-for-18 on hitting attempts with five kills.
Winchester's season record slipped to 4-13. The Falcons play Saturday in the Randolph County Tournament at Union.
< B>Centerville wins in three
< B> Host Centerville took advantage of Winchester's poor serve reception in the second two games and handled the Falcons 25-18, 25-11, 25-13 in a Tri-Eastern Conference match. The loss dropped the Falcons to 4-12 on the season.
The Falcons were led by Danielle Green with 13 digs and Sarah Hamm with four kills.
Winchester's reserve team improved to 3-4 on the season by defeating the Bulldogs 25-8, 25-19.< B>
The Falcons are in action Saturday at the Randolph County Tournament.
