Grace Wallace earns all-TEC honors
Winchester's Grace Wallace added a nice big feather to her outstanding golf season Saturday by firing an 86 to earn a spot on the Tri-Eastern Conference golf team.
The league tournament was held at the par 73 Wiinchester Golf Club.
Hagerstown's Alesa Melton was low medalist for the meet with a 75 and led the Lady Tigers to the team title. The Tigers were 10 strokes better than second place Union County.
Winchester - as has been the case all season - was unable to field a complete team, having just four golfers. Shantel Short had a nice round for the Falcons with a 95. Ashley Miller had 115 and Janelle Yaryan 118.
Joining Melton and Wallace on the all-TEC team were Kara Fortman of Lincoln, Kayla Finch of Union County, Stacey Hannebaum of Union County, Hannah Gore of Centerville, Kara Strveing of Lincoln, Hannah Jones of Hagerstown, Allyson Kenworthy of Hagerstown and Kaitlyn Culy of Hagerstown.
Blackhawks finish 2-1 at Houston Invitational

HOUSTON, Ohio - After getting off to a slow start, Mississinawa Valley's volleyball team bounced back with a couple of impressive victories Saturday at the Houston Invitational.
Host Houston topped the Blackhawks in the first of three matches, 25-11, 25-22. But the Valley girls came back to avenge an earlier loss to rival Ansonia and won their second match in a three-game thriller, 22-25, 25-19, 26-24.
The Blackhawks rode that momentum in their third match against Troy Christian and won convincingly in two games, 25-15, 25-20.
Mississinawa Valley was led by Angie Beanblossom with 18 points. McKenzie Livingston had a nice day with 17 points, 27 kills and 27 digs, A.J. Cox finished with 20 assists and 11 kills, Cierra Saintignon was credited with 17 assists and Mandy Austerman led with 30 digs.
The Blackhawks improved to 6-4 after finishing the day 2-1.
Mississinawa Valley's junior varsity went 3-0 on the day and defeated Houston (6-25, 25-13, 25-23), Ansonia (28-26, 26-24) and Troy Christian (25-12, 25-12).
The reserve Valley team was led by Danielle Partin with 18 points, 22 assists and 11 kills. Morgan Nieport had 17 points, Katie LeMaster had 18 assists, 10 kills and 21 digs and Jodi Schmitz had 12 digs.
The Blackhawks got back to the .500 mark on the season (5-5) with the three victories.
Next up is a trip across the state line to Union City Monday night and a road trip to Newton on Tuesday.
Blackhawks defeat Tri-Village
On Thursday, the Blackhawks defeated visiting Tri-Village in three games, 25-15, 25-20, 25-21.
McKenizie Livingston led with 11 points, 12 kills. nine digs and three blocks. Madison Bloominstock had 10 points and nine digs, Cierra Saintignon was credited with 15 assists. A.J. Cox had 12 assists, seven kills and nine digs.
The junior varsity also was victorious in three games, 19-25, 25-17, 25-17. Morgan Nieport had 10 points with 10 digs, Danielle Partin scored seven points to go with nine assists, Katie LeMaster had 11 assists, seven kills and nine digs and Jodi Schmitz and Megan Hiatt had five kills each.
Hawk eighth graders
defeat Wes-Del, 34-24
Driver's eighth grade football team defeated Wes-Del in a hard-fought game, 34-24.
Chet Fifer scored two touchdowns for Driver with Alex West, Cody Woodbury and Carlas Bogue also scoring TDs. Woodbury and West also scored on two-point conversions.
Woodbury scored the winning touchdown when he dove into the end zone with :13 left in the game after catching a 10-yard pass from Chuckie Lee. Bogue clinched the victory by intercepting a pass and returning it 40 yards.
West finished with 61 yards on eight carries, Fifer racked up 106 yards on five carries with touchdown runs of 38 and 46 yards. Bogue ended with 39 yards on five carries.
Driver is now 2-0 on the season.
